RICHMOND

Richmond is one of Britain’s most beautiful historic market towns situated in lower Swaledale, at a gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, but in easy reach by rail from Darlington and 10 mins from the A1. It has a Norman Castle, old medieval buildings, an original Georgian theatre, many fine Georgian buildings and a large cobbled market place.
Walking is an important activity with the town situated at the heart of the popular Coast to Coast walk. There is an excellent network of footpaths and bridleways, in the surrounding countryside providing all standards of walks in spectacular scenery. Next year Richmond will be running its fifth Walking and Book Festival over 10 days at from 25th Sept - 4th Oct with over 40 guided walks It is easy to discover the town’s fascinating history with free guided walks from the tourist information centre, or a town trail with accompanying leaflet.
