DEAL

Deal is very attractive for walkers – not only for our lovely East Kent countryside but also because of our history, with Deal and Walmer castles and the former Royal Marines’ School of Music barracks, which was a major part of the town. After the IRA bombing of the barracks in 1989, a bandstand was erected in memory of the 11 musicians who died, which is the venue for free concerts given during the summer.

The White Cliffs of Dover are just around the corner, and right on Deal's doorstep is the English Channel, which has served as a barrier against the threat of invasion over the centuries. Walking along Deal's seafront is a delight.

Just outside Deal is Fowlmead Country Park, constructed on land which was the spoil tip for the former Betteshanger coal mine, which has many paths for walkers.

Look at the following self guided walks to discover more of what our countryside has to offer.
White Cliffs of Dover & Walmer Castle 9 miles
A shorter version 2 miles
Village church tour 12 miles]
Saxon Shore Way & Fowlmead Country park 12 miles
Goodnestone park Gardens & Chillenden Windmill 5 miles
