CHURCH STRETTON

The first Walkers Are Welcome town in the Midlands, Church Stretton is set in a landscape of stunning beauty. The small medieval market town (population 4000) has a thriving cultural life, a compact shopping centre with ten cafes and restaurants, a coach park and a pretty railway station, three pubs, many Victorian and Georgian buildings, traditional shops and a popular three-storied Antiques Centre.

The Heart of the Shropshire Hills and the only town inside this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,

Church Stretton is sandwiched between the heather-covered Long Mynd to the west and the imposing rocky peak of Caer Caradoc to the east. It offers almost immediate access to a wilderness of upland moors, deep batches and shallow, rocky streams – much of the land being managed by the National Trust – with over 30 miles of well maintained footpaths that include four WaW way-marked walks, and 20 miles of bridleways.
